The Art, Science and Nature of Stewardship
Children and community show their love for art, wildlife, conservation and restoration

Welcome to Wildlands, I am really glad you’re here!
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”- Aristotle
Gratefully, being a nature nomad in three ecosystems is expanding my network and opportunities. While attending the Conservation Summit, I was asked to be the artist for the Women in STEAM at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.
Show your love of nature
Last Saturday, 300 (K-12) children explored Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math exhibitions and engagements. Each had a passport for every “station” and received a stamp at each stop.
A huge Palo Verde tree, with her green branches and leaves and bright yellow buds, glowed, protected and seemed to keep tempo with laughter as she gently swayed in the occassional breeze. The snowy white mountaintops and clear blue sky embraced us and shared their beauty. A female hummingbird spun around in the air in a flight of feat and feast.
As we “painted our love song”, the joy, peace and gratitude, for connection and opportunity was inspiring and uplifting. We were nourished by the feat and feast for our souls. I’m in awe and wonder of kids and nature’s colors and art. Cheers to you, and here’s to soils and souls.

Dozens of kids lined up for a standing room only spot to paint wildlife in a native garden. I quickly made room, encouraged dozens of kids to join us and share and engage while painting at the art table. It was a beautiful day with kids having fun and connecting with nature, wildlife, art and each other.
Fascinating Ancestory…did you know?
“About 55 million years ago the elephant, manatee and hyrax shared a common ancestor. Today, hyrax and their close living relatives still share similar characteristics such as their teeth, toes, skulls, and tusks.”

With dozens of kids of all ages, our art time was also a peace and calm session. The VP of Learning and Education at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, as well as teachers, kids and parents, can testify to the peace and harmony throughout a very popular place at the STEAM event- the art station.
Humanity, animals and nature need us to connect and artists have an important role in society.
