How Mothering a New Consciousness Helps Birth a Better World
Restoring Soils and Souls Reveals the Surreal Silence of Mothering, Empathy, Compassion, Optimism, Reciprocity, Generosity and the Sacred Art of Advocacy
Honoring and Celebrating Mothers: those who mother others, those who lost a loved one, the children in foster care and shelters, more than humans in shelters, and mothers of all species and advocacy.
Sometimes celebratory days are difficult. We can mother ourselves and parent in many ways…here’s to Mother’s Day!
Each of us has a responsibility to “be” the change we want to “see” in our world: You are personally ordained by Something Greater Than Ourselves to “Be and See”!
The purpose of mothering is to foster ethics, noble values, love for mother earth, Mother Nature, more than humans, humans and all beings. Together we heal: please, no entitlement- foster and nurture personal responsibility, generosity and purpose, that’s good for mental and emotional health.
There is an art to advocacy, which is sometimes a solitary, silent and surreal, many times unpaid, many times “thankless”- for example, mothering a new consciousness to help birth a better world full of empathy, optimism and generosity. The world is filled with children of all ages and other species who need attention, love and care.
Two of my cousins were adopted. One of them, along with her husband, work with the foster system in Oregon and work with children who need foster parents and would love to be adopted.
There is also an urgent need for animal companion adoption. My essay, Born Free USA, highlights the many problems with keeping more than humans in enclosures. Would you want to be caged? Of course not! Petfinder is great place to find your fur babies: Adopt don’t shop.
We are Evolving with Empathy, Science is Awakening
Celebrating mothers of all species: Evidence of animal self-medication has mounted in recent decades. An orangutan named Rakus was observed repeatedly chewing on the leaves of a particular liana plant over several days. The climbing vine is not a typical food for orangutans, but it is known to humans as a pain reliever.
Rakus made a paste from the chewed leaves and applied it to his face- nature’s medicine for his skin wound- that is sentience. Question anyone and anything that does not support that more than humans and nature are sentient! Science is based and built on “animals can’t feel and can’t suffer”, thanks to Renee Descartes. Ridiculous, of course, and that is why evolving is essential to the health and well-being of our world!
Scientists push a new paradigm that vertebrates and invertebrates are no different than we are and have needs, feelings, families and are self-aware. Science is finally catching up to empathy, compassion, generosity…the mother principles!
Honor, Respect and Love Our Relations!
Orangutans are great apes and are closely related to humans, having 97% of DNA in common. “Extinction in the wild is likely in the next 10 years for Sumatran orangutans and soon after for Bornean orangutans. Both the Sumatran species (Pongo abelii) and the Bornean species (Pongo pygmaeus) are classified as Critically Endangered according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
The Sumatran and Bornean Orangutans' rainforest habitats are disappearing at an alarming rate due to deforestation and clearing of the land for pulp paper and palm oil plantations, with the remaining forest degraded by drought and forest fires.”
YOU Can Help- Your Action Steps:
1. Vote with your dollars: Know what you are buying and support businesses that are ethical and do no harm. Do not buy products or support businesses that use palm oil, factory farm, experiment/ test on animals, or destroy nature.
2. Learn about orangutans and support The Orangutan Project.
3. DO NO HARM: eat whole, organic plant foods (not processed) to reduce deforestation for agriculture and do not use poison (Round-Up and rat poison, for example).
4. Need inspiration, nutritional information, recipes? Would you like to help reduce cruelty to animals? Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Dr. Neal Barnard, MD, is a plant-based food doctor with courses and campaigns asking medical schools to stop practicing on animals. DO NO HARM is the Hippocratic Oath. Dr. Barnard, M.D. also has research and dietary recommendations for diseases, like diabetes, dementia, and other health issues. Healthy humans foster a new world.
5. Mother a new consciousness: Envision a world united, compassionate, respect-full, with empathy- symbiotic with humans, nature and more than humans- that’s true community, immunity and prosperity and that is sustainable!
Kind neighbors Say No to Rat Poison: Empathy in humans was spurred on by the death of a poisoned eagle named MK in nearby Arlington and the plight of Owen the Owl, who was often seen at Boston’s Faneuil Hall. Owen nearly died after ingesting prey that had been poisoned with rodenticide and lost an eye due to the poisoning. He did recover, and was released from a wildlife rehabilitation service several weeks after the incident.
On a personal note: My beloved cat, Bello, died after ingesting a rat who had been poisoned by a neighbor. Bello survived coyotes, bobcats, and other wildlife near a canyon in San Diego and in the Sonoran Desert. He did not survive the unconsciousness and cruelty of humans. Let’s agree: NO POISON- NO HARM, utilize and respect nature’s ecosystem services.
Spring is Baby Season, The Best Chance of Survival is with Mother
Be certain that baby animals are actually orphans before attempting to rescue them — and to be sure of the species of the animal.
"Last week, a Good Samaritan found a den behind their shed full of tiny baby animals," Jennifer Armbruster, senior manager of public relations at the Arizona Humane Society. "Human intervention is typically not required … The best thing we can do is leave the kittens alone," she said. The mother cat will likely return to her babies before too long, and "it's critical that the kittens remain in her care as she offers the best chance for survival."
Rather than immediately intervene, a person should instead keep an eye on the kittens. If, after eight hours without their mom, "then it is likely the kittens are orphaned," said Armbruster. If, as in the case of the Good Samaritan, a person were to come across a litter of wild animals with no mother in sight, it is best to contact a wildlife rehabilitation organization, she said.
Gray foxes are commonly found throughout the United States, said the website for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. They typically grow to be about four to five pounds, and they are about a foot tall at the shoulder, said the museum.
Art, Poetry and Advocacy and Fixing Problems
My art and poetry are included in three States in four in person shows. Three shows are opening on Saturday, May 11…
Jaguar Rising: Art, Music, Mask and Spoken Word
Saturday, May 11, 2024, 5:00-9:00 pm, Wittner Museum in Nogales, AZ and, La Linea Art Studio, Nogales, AZ.
In 2019-2021, my colleague, Kate Scott, and I co-created events to bring awareness to the San Pedro River and border issues.
With my hand-made Loud Hawk mask, two pieces of art (one: “Jaguar”, the other, “Girl with Hawk”), and a poem, Bloated Border- a poem about breaking spells…tyrannical spells, I passionately read my poem. Afterwards, I was asked to run for office, by a representative of National Parks Conservation Association (now a Vice-Mayor) with a former Congressman standing by his side smiling, who also complimented my poem. I told them, “Thanks for the vote of confidence and for the compliments. I can help get good things done for the biota as a writer-artist-advocate.”
I have been asked to run office a couple of times and “no, thanks, politics is too divisive- my work is about bringing humans together to connect with nature and more than humans to restore and conserve flora and fauna.” Poetry and art can be powerful advocacy. I AM Nature and Bloated Border will be included in the Jaguar Rising show.
Envision politics uplifting and uniting humans, respecting and protecting nature and all her beings! Envision jobs that pay well to reciprocate connection with life, protect and restore habitats!

Gratitude for Mothers and Those Who Mother Others No matter what species, gender or race, not all mothers have a face. Mother trees and seeds have a place- jaguars, bees and birds need space. Gratitude for all who care, no matter the reason, what or where. Mothers who are known or who are rare- here’s to the caring kind, especially when thanks is in no one’s mind. Children of all ages seek solace from despair- some have fins, four legs, wings or hair. Some are grieving, letting go, or growing old- a mother's care is a special advocacy to behold. Love is action- to nurture, give, and support- be kind to all beings and mothers of all sort. An original poem, by Robin Motzer, All Rights Reserved.
About Robin, the Nature Nomad, aka Loud Hawk (“One who gets things done”)
My great grandfather was a farmer and friends with a U.S. President. Another ancestor fought in the American Revolution. My partner, a Physicist, a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation, and I now own farmland- land that his family has owned since 1902. Food, farming and freedom are infused in my life and restoration-conservation are a part of my Soul. It is a joy to work with the soil, assisting, partnering, loving and co-restoring all the souls within and upon it.
Wildlands mission is to reduce harm/ increase Self-Love/ Love of Nature and All Relations and Nations, whether they be flora, fauna, or fungi, and deepen our personal service so that each of us know that we belong and have purpose- we are the biota.
“A Poet with a Purpose” as a Wild and Free Nature Nomad, is growing organically- through art, poetry, essays on Wildlands and through Sustainable Tucson Habitat Restoration projects.
Generosity heals, “Restoring Soils and Souls” is my soul’s work to guide others to a natural, beautiful, connected, healthy life. Please support my work to help humans rid self of material cares and burdens of unneeded stress and enjoy an original relation with the Universe to experience "the sublime."
Your financial support goes towards habitat restoration and conservation projects for schools, communities, homes, businesses, regenerative farms, nature, more than humans and children of all ages. We grow intelligence, wisdom and connection when our souls are connected to the soils.
I’m working with national and international organizations and a national publication. Inquire about my guest writer, podcast guest and other availabilities, or would like to learn about my Health,Wellness and Freedom Guidance, Project Development Services and Restoring Soils and Souls!
Robin means “new beginnings” and “bright fame”. I’ve included some links to my previous publications within this essay to tie things together, and in case you are new to Wildlands, which is making news! I was asked to be a Guest Columnist in a major publication, thanks to my previous essay, Food, Farming and Freedom!
In honor of my dear friend Abhimanyu, whose father was one of Gandhi's attorneys. Abhi prophesized years ago that my work would be seen by children of all ages around the world- he said my work “is the essence of a loving mother”. He reminded me in times of challenge, that it meant that I was loved. Because if I wasn’t loved, life wouldn’t bother with me. Profound wisdom that I pay forward to you, dear readers. If you are challenged in these times, remember it is because you are loved and life wants you to learn and grow because you have something to offer to others.
To anyone grieving loss of a loved one: Trauma has a way of stoking the embers that burst into fire- a glowing fire in the soul to be free. Re-birth from trauma and PTSD --transformation is resilience is Self-Reliance, and that is valuable always, especially when freedoms are threatened! Shine On!
And, thank you, my dear elder friend, Abhi, the horse whisperer, and sailor, for blessing the world for 92 years. (Another one of his friends was Robert Redford). He is sailing freely amongst the stars, guiding the way for my work to help ease the pain and suffering of all beings, so that a glorious, uplifting, united, world shines with love, beauty, goodness and freedom!

Note to readers: Factory Farming, fur farming- and farms that use cruel practices are mentioned in someway in most of Wildlands, Restoring Soils and Souls newsletters. There are many non-profits that help more than humans and information of at least one of them is usually within the essay. Mothers in Factory Farms are represented by Animal Wellness Action (one of my essays was an interview with AWA Founder, Wayne Pacelle; Born Free USA (read my essay with BFUSA), and a reader shares: Compassion in World Farming, , to name a few.
